Color Grading by Tobias Johannes Bachmann

Shaping the visual language of a film.

Color grading is more than technical correction. It is the process of defining atmosphere, guiding emotion and creating a visual identity that supports the story.

With a background in directing and cinematography, I approach color from both a technical and narrative perspective. Every decision is made with the intention of enhancing the filmmaker’s vision and creating images that feel authentic, consistent and purposeful.

Understanding the Story

Every grade begins with understanding the film’s intention, emotional direction and visual references. A strong grade is not created in isolation — it grows from the story it serves.

Creating the Look

Through careful balancing of contrast, color relationships and tonal structure, I develop a cohesive visual language that strengthens the atmosphere and guides the viewer’s experience.

Refinement & Delivery

After detailed refinement and review, the final masters are prepared according to the technical requirements of each platform, ensuring a reliable and accurate delivery.

Technical Expertise

I provide professional SDR and HDR color grading for documentaries, narrative films and commercials.

My grading suite is equipped with calibrated professional reference displays, including an Asus ProArt OLED and Eizo CG monitor, a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Monitor 3G I/O solution for accurate signal output, and a Tangent Ripple panel for precise creative control.

Whether developing a complete look from the ground up or refining an existing visual concept, the goal remains the same:

Creating images that serve the story.
